My Quotes : )

In being honest with myself I have only chosen a handful of quotes. You may, as I have ,find an understanding and connection to the following sayings. (I have included a quote from Mason Cooley which I do not fully understand now, but believe that with the passing of time I will one day know why it has intrigued me so much today)

"Of all the diversions of life, there is none so proper to fill up its empty spaces as the reading of useful and entertaining authors."
Author: Joseph Addison

"Books are like imprisoned souls till someone takes them down from a shelf and frees them."
Author: Samuel Butler

"Reading a book is like re-writing it for yourself.... You bring to a novel, anything you read, all your experience of the world. You bring your history and you read it in you own terms."
Author: Angela Carter

"If I had found the words I was looking for, I would not have read so much"
Author: Mason Cooley

Reading is Also for Toddlers

Reading to toddlers is a great way for them to be introduced into a world of literature. I recommend reading books w/ interesting pictures. You don't have to read word by word but rather explain the pictures and concept. They absolutely love it when you play out what you are reading. Suggested reading for toddlers are:

*"Big and Little" by Todd Parr (His books are really excellent for reading to young children, his pictures are vivid and capture a toddler's interest)

*"Teletubbies Play Hide-And-Seek!: A Lift-The-Flap Book" (Teletubbies) by Itsy Bitsy Entertainment Company, Dana Thompson, and Del Thompson

*"My First Truck Sticker Board" Book by DK Publishing

November Book Selection ---> Thriller

Our reading group is currently in the process of selecting books for voting. Our genre this time will be Thriller. We have had really good recommendations so far. You may always visit our group to get all the details. Visit us this week to find out our selections and the poll results.

"The Kite Runner"

About This Book :

An epic tale of fathers and sons, of friendship and betrayal, that takes us from Afghanistan in the final days of the monarchy to the atrocities of the present.

The unforgettable, heartbreaking story of the unlikely friendship between a wealthy boy and the son of his father's servant, The Kite Runner is a beautifully crafted novel set in a country that is in the process of being destroyed. It is about the power of reading, the price of betrayal, and the possibility of redemption, and it is also about the power of fathers over sons-their love, their sacrifices, their lies.
